Share:

Nine women are among 60 candidates contesting for House of Representatives seats in six of Kaduna State's federal constituencies ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to the final list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The gender column of the list, signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, shows 51 men and nine women among the candidates in the six constituencies.

Kaduna North, Igabi, Chikun/Kajuru, Jema'a/Sanga, Sabon Gari and Kaura are the only six of the state's 15 federal constituencies with at least one female candidate on the list. The 60 candidates are those contesting in these six constituencies, not the total for all 15 seats in the state.

Chikun/Kajuru  has the most women, with three among its 12 candidates: Emmanuel Grace Adejo Princess of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Shehu Fatima of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Shekari Saratu Larai of the Labour Party (LP).

Kaura has two women among nine candidates: Mercy Kolo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Christiana Maria Baidi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Kaduna North has one woman among 10 candidates, Hassan Isah Fauziyya of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Igabi has one woman among 11 candidates, Ibrahim Fatima of the APM.

Jema'a/Sanga has one woman among 10 candidates, Asabe Michael Akai of the LP. In the same constituency, the list records Yohana Elizabeth of the ADP as male.

Sabon Gari has one woman among eight candidates, Salihu Umar Rukayya of the LP.

The list is part of INEC's preparations for the 2027 general elections, in which Nigerians will elect members of the National Assembly and other political office holders.
