2027: Uduehi Urges Women to Back Credible Female Candidates

Dr Esther Uduehi, Founder and Chairperson, Board of Trustees of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria, has called on Nigerian women to unite behind credible female candidates in the 2027 general elections.
She said doing so would help increase the number of women in leadership positions and governance structures across the country.
According to her, women should set aside personal interests and support candidates who are capable of making a meaningful impact, promoting inclusive governance and opening doors for more women to take part in leadership.
"I will encourage the women that they should go all out now and support their women, especially, not just any woman.
"Support those women they feel can come and make an impact and help to bring out more women," she said.
Encouraging women to take an active part in politics, Uduehi said determination was essential to overcoming barriers and succeeding in public service and other fields.
"There's never a limit to where you can go in life. You have to be determined. And if you are determined, let nothing stop you. Let no border hinder you," she said.
She added that breaking barriers should not end as a personal achievement, but should inspire others and create opportunities for more people to succeed.
"Crossing the border is not for you alone. It's for those around you. You can always carry people along," she said.
Reflecting on decades of advocacy for women's political participation, Uduehi said Nigerian women had yet to attain the level of representation they deserved in elective and appointive positions.
"We haven't reached where we should be politically wise. We are not happy that we haven't, but with the awareness being created by all of you, we will get there," she said.
