Access Holdings Plc, Zenith Bank Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc dominated trading on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) during the week, jointly accounting for 1.02 billion shares worth ₦50.52 billion.

However, the concentration of trading in the three financial institutions coincided with a broader market decline. The NGX All-Share Index fell by 0.97 per cent to 248,363.55 points, while market capitalisation declined by the same percentage to ₦161.26 trillion.

According to the exchange’s weekly trading report, the three companies recorded 29,382 deals, representing 37.56 per cent of total equity turnover volume and 31.92 per cent of transaction value.

Across the market, investors exchanged 2.715 billion shares valued at ₦158.28 billion in 209,986 deals. This compared with 3.166 billion shares worth ₦155.023 billion in 206,662 deals during the preceding week.

The figures showed that transaction value increased by 2.08 per cent despite a reduction in the number of shares traded. Higher trading value did not translate into an overall rise in share prices.

Financial Services Dominates Turnover

The financial services industry remained the most actively traded sector by volume, recording 2.005 billion shares worth ₦82.924 billion in 94,483 deals.

It accounted for 73.84 per cent of total equity turnover volume and 52.39 per cent of transaction value.

Consumer goods followed with 152.345 million shares valued at ₦11.425 billion in 20,926 deals.

The information and communications technology industry ranked third by volume, with investors trading 117.296 million shares worth ₦15.256 billion in 22,556 deals.

All other indices closed lower, except the NGX Industrial Goods Index, which gained 0.02 per cent.

More Stocks Lose Ground

Price movements reflected a weaker market, with 24 equities appreciating, compared with 44 in the previous week.

The number of declining equities increased to 54 from 37, while 68 remained unchanged, against 65 previously.

Livestock Feeds, Tripple Gee, Guinea Insurance, Learn Africa and Multi-Trex Integrated Foods led the gainers’ chart. Their respective share prices rose by ₦4.25, 76 kobo, 21 kobo, ₦1.50 and six kobo.

Critical Minerals Financing Corp., ABC Transport, Japaul Gold, Fidelity Bank and Aradel Holdings led the losers’ chart, recording respective declines of 91 kobo, ₦1.35, 32 kobo, ₦2.50 and ₦153.

These figures represent the monetary changes in share prices, rather than percentage returns.

Bond Listings and Trading Resumption

The exchange listed the Federal Government Savings Bonds issued in September 2026 on Wednesday.

It also admitted an additional 6.31 billion ordinary shares of Guinea Insurance Plc, with a nominal value of 50 kobo each, to its Daily Official List on the same day.

Separately, the NGX lifted the suspension on trading in Multi-Trex Integrated Foods shares on Wednesday, allowing transactions in the company’s stock to resume.

The week ended with increased transaction value but broader price losses, as financial services stocks continued to account for most of the shares traded.
