Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has pledged to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying the administration needs more time to consolidate its economic reforms.

Adeleke made the pledge on Wednesday at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the State House in Abuja.

The governor, who secured re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, said he was backing Tinubu’s second-term bid despite their different party affiliations.

“Four years is not enough, that is why I’m here to throw my weight,” he said.

Adeleke’s argument presented a second term as necessary for the reforms to deliver results. His remarks did not specify which reforms he was assessing or provide measures of their outcomes.

Osun Campaign Role

A revised campaign council list released on Tuesday named Adeleke as coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign in Osun.

Addressing the gathering, the governor expressed confidence in the president’s electoral prospects and urged supporters to move from speeches to campaign activity.

“We don’t have time. The work has begun. I’ve already started mine,” he said.

“Let us rise and make sure our president comes back for the second time.”

Adeleke also urged Nigerians to pray for the president and other leaders, saying their success mattered to the country’s progress.

Coalition Across Party Lines

APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda described the gathering as a “rainbow coalition”, reflecting the involvement of politicians from different parties in Tinubu’s campaign.

The revised council list also named Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike as coordinator for Rivers State and the FCT, and included Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The APC is scheduled to launch its presidential campaign in Kaduna on October 24.

Adeleke’s endorsement adds the backing of an Accord governor to Tinubu’s campaign structure. How that support translates into voter mobilisation in Osun remains to be seen, while the governor’s case for another term rests on his assessment that the president’s reforms require more time.
