Anambra Set to Launch South-East National Community Food Bank

The National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East Geopolitical Zone is scheduled for inauguration in Anambra on Sept. 10, 2026 by Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, Wife of the President.
The programme will be launched, during the first official visit of the First Lady to the state since assuming office, according to Mr Daniel Ezeigwe, Senior Media Aide to the Wife of Anambra Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ezeigwe said the food bank programme was one of the activities planned for the visit under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
He said the initiative was aimed at strengthening food security and supporting vulnerable households amid concerns over hunger and nutrition.
The First Lady’s programme in Anambra will also include an empowerment exercise for 5,000 people under the Progressives United Against Poverty Initiative.
Ezeigwe said the empowerment scheme was being championed by the Anambra Government in support of the RHI Economic Support Scheme.
He explained that beneficiaries would receive practical economic support and opportunities intended to help improve their livelihoods.
The aide said the intervention would particularly focus on individuals and households that required assistance to become more economically productive.
First Lady Visit to Federal Polytechnic, Oko
Another major engagement during the visit will be First lady’s visit to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
Ezeigwe said the Wife of the President would inaugurate key projects at the institution as part of her activities in the state.
He said the visit would also provide an avenue for closer partnership between the Federal Government and the Anambra Government.
According to him, such collaboration would advance programmes focusing on poverty reduction, economic empowerment, food security and improved livelihoods.
“The visit is expected to further strengthen the partnership between the Federal Government and the Anambra Government.
“This will advance programmes targeted at poverty reduction, economic empowerment, food security and improved livelihoods,” he said.
Ezeigwe said residents of Anambra would have the opportunity to benefit directly from the empowerment programme and other interventions scheduled for the First Lady’s visit.
