Egg Sellers Launch App to Connect Suppliers and Buyers

By Atlantic Reports
The Egg Sellers and Distributors Association of Nigeria (ESDAN) has launched EggHome, a digital platform intended to connect egg suppliers with buyers and address distribution problems that can leave producers with unsold stock while households struggle with prices.
The association’s National President, Mrs Olaide Graham, announced the launch in an interview on Monday in Lagos, saying the app would link producers, distributors, sellers and consumers.
“Through this initiative, ESDAN seeks to make fresh eggs more affordable and accessible while providing consumers with a convenient way to connect with egg suppliers,” she said.
Graham said the platform was designed to improve market access, reduce bottlenecks and promote more transparent transactions across the egg distribution chain.
She identified recurring egg glut as a challenge for poultry producers, with difficulties finding buyers leaving eggs unsold and losing freshness.
“ESDAN recognises that inefficiencies in marketing, distribution and access to consumers can contribute to this challenge,” she said.
According to Graham, a more direct connection between suppliers and customers could help producers sell at sustainable prices, enable distributors to operate more efficiently and give consumers better value for money.
She also said the association hoped to tackle what it described as unfair pricing practices and exploitation within the distribution chain.
These are the platform’s stated objectives. The launch announcement did not provide comparative prices, transaction fees, delivery coverage or results demonstrating that purchases through EggHome would cost less than existing alternatives. It also did not explain how egg freshness would be checked.
Those details will matter to households seeking affordable food and producers looking to reduce avoidable losses.
The launch accompanied ESDAN’s activities marking World Egg Day, an annual celebration held on the second Friday in October to promote awareness of eggs’ nutritional value and uses.
Graham said the celebration included student activities focused on nutrition, healthier food choices and opportunities in the poultry industry.
“The students’ participation provided an opportunity to encourage healthier food choices and introduce young people to the importance of nutrition, entrepreneurship, innovation and the poultry industry’s contribution to national development,” she said.
She called for sustained nutrition education and greater youth participation in the industry.
The association also conducted outreach to widows, older people and people facing hardship, Graham said, although the account did not specify the number of beneficiaries or the assistance provided.
She described the outreach as part of ESDAN’s responsibility to support communities alongside its commercial activities.
For EggHome, the practical measure of success will be whether the platform helps suppliers find buyers, reduces losses and delivers fresh eggs to consumers at competitive prices.
