Hamzat Urges Lagos Voters to Back Tinubu, APC in 2027

By Atlantic Reports
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has urged residents to vote for President Bola Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 general elections, arguing that their election would sustain the party’s programmes and advance prosperity.
Hamzat, identified as the APC governorship candidate in Lagos, spoke on Monday at the inauguration of the PBAT/KOH Lagos Central Campaign Office on Harden Street, Lagos Island.
He said Tinubu’s longstanding political connection to Lagos made support from the state particularly significant, while urging party members to translate that support into votes.
“We are commissioning this office today to take our campaign to the grassroots. We know Lagos Island has been doing really well in voting but that is not enough, as many people still do not vote,” he said.
Hamzat argued that re-electing Tinubu would provide continuity for the administration’s work. His assertion that an APC victory would deliver prosperity was a campaign position, rather than a guaranteed economic outcome.
Turning support into turnout
The deputy governor said Lagos had the country’s highest number of registered voters, stressing that registration figures alone would not secure the party’s desired result.
He urged members to encourage electoral participation and bring other supporters to their polling units on election day.
“My charge to you is that, as you are all seated here today, on election day, make sure you take someone along to the polling unit to vote for Tinubu,” he said.
Hamzat also cited Osun, where he said about 54 per cent of registered voters participated in the last election, to underline his argument for stronger turnout. The supplied account did not identify the election behind that comparison.
Campaign office to support grassroots engagement
Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said the office would strengthen coordination between the Lagos Central Senatorial District and the party’s state leadership.
He said it would support communication of the party’s policies and claimed achievements across local governments, wards and polling units.
Ojelabi urged members to take messages about the records of Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to their communities. He also encouraged those yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to do so and called for peaceful campaigns and constructive, issue-based engagement.
Senator Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, who represents Lagos Central, urged supporters to remain united despite their differences and maintain discipline throughout the campaign.
He called for stronger engagement across communities, markets and households, expressing confidence that sustained mobilisation would help the APC achieve its electoral objectives.
The Director-General of the PBAT/KOH Lagos Campaign Organisation, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, said the office reflected the district’s political importance to the party and its efforts to strengthen local campaign structures.
He urged supporters to intensify mobilisation for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
While the inauguration centred on organisation and turnout, the supplied account did not set out specific policy proposals or performance measures supporting the promise of prosperity. Those details would give voters a firmer basis for assessing the party’s case for continuity.
