Kano Governorship List: Party Urges Calm Over Abdussalam-Gwarzo’s Omission

By Atlantic Reports
A political party has urged its supporters in Kano to remain calm over the omission of Abdussalam-Gwarzo’s name from a governorship candidate list, saying it expects the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to correct the issue.
The party’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Yusif Fasaha, said in a statement that the commission had attributed the omission to a computer problem during consultations.
“We have consulted the INEC and they told us that the problem was from computer, and they will rectify it,” Fasaha said.
He said a revised list containing Abdussalam-Gwarzo’s name was expected by Monday, urging supporters to remain patient while the party pursued the matter.
Fasaha maintained that Abdussalam-Gwarzo had fulfilled all election requirements and completed the necessary processes within the stipulated time.
“We have seen the list and will continue with consultation on the matter,” he said.
The list was reported to contain 17 governorship candidates and their running mates. It named Governor Abba Yusuf as the All Progressives Congress candidate, with Murtala Sule-Garo as his running mate.
Other parties listed included the African Democratic Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Labour Party and Social Democratic Party.
The statement did not identify Fasaha’s party or include direct confirmation from INEC concerning the reported technical fault. The explanation for the omission and the expectation of a revised list remain attributed to the party spokesperson.
