Kebbi State House of Assembly Speaker, Alhaji Salihu Maikasuwa-Dangoje, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Kebbi South, retired General Jafaru Muhammad-Gejere, have predicted victory over incumbent Senator Garba Musa-Maidoki in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking separately in Zuru on Saturday during Governor Nasir Idris’ visit to the district, the two politicians expressed confidence that the APC would secure overwhelming support against Maidoki, who is contesting on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

Maikasuwa-Dangoje projected that the APC would receive 95 per cent of the votes. The figure was presented as a political forecast, with no opinion poll or electoral analysis supplied to support it.

“We are confident that our party, the APC, will win the election with 95 per cent of the total votes,” he said.

The speaker also predicted that rival candidates would withdraw from the contest, although he did not identify any candidate who had indicated an intention to do so.

Road Project Features in Campaign Argument

Maikasuwa-Dangoje attributed what he described as defections from opposition parties to projects undertaken by the Idris administration.

He highlighted the Koko-Mahuta-Dabai road, saying it had remained abandoned for years before the governor intervened.

According to the speaker, Idris facilitated the revocation of the previous contract and the state government took over the project, with reimbursement expected from the Federal Government.

“As I am talking to you now, the project is in an advanced stage of completion,” he said.

The supplied account did not specify the contract value, expenditure to date, completion deadline or terms of the proposed federal reimbursement. The road was described as ongoing, rather than completed.

Candidate Cites Turnout and Government Performance

Muhammad-Gejere said he expected the governor’s development projects to translate into votes for APC candidates across the state.

He pointed to the turnout during Idris’ visit to Zuru Emirate as evidence of support for the administration.

“The governor has done a lot, he has executed a lot of projects across the state, this is what is attracting people, especially the opposition, to the ruling party,” he said.

The candidate maintained that the APC had a strong presence in Kebbi South and appealed to residents to support the party in the forthcoming elections.

However, attendance at a political reception does not establish how the wider electorate will vote. Neither politician provided figures showing the scale of the defections they cited.

Electoral Contest Remains Open

The statements signal the APC’s intention to challenge Maidoki’s hold on the Kebbi South Senate seat, with government performance forming a central part of its campaign argument.

The supplied account did not include a response from Maidoki or the ADC to the predictions.

For voters, the contest will provide an opportunity to assess the incumbent senator’s representation alongside the APC’s promises and the state government’s record. The projected margin remains a campaign claim until tested at the ballot box.
