"Ogun 2027: Soyode Endorses PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate as Woman of Integrity"

 A former Vice Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Prof. Afolabi Soyode, has praised the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hajia Yemi Showunmi-Kolapo, describing her as objective and honest.

Soyode spoke on Tuesday when Showunmi-Kolapo visited his Abeokuta residence as part of her ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The economist, who is also Life President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Abeokuta Club, called her "a woman of integrity," recalling an encounter with her more than two decades ago that left a lasting impression.

He noted that their last one-on-one meeting was around 20 years ago, but said he had continued to hold her in high regard.

Soyode said that as a stakeholder in Ogun State, he remains invested in the question of who leads the state.

"It was about 20 years ago that we saw last. I finished my tenure as VC at Ago Iwoye, April 2006. Even with the passage of time, I remember Alhaja with admiration, with appreciation. She was one editor that was very supportive, very objective, and with integrity," he said.

In her remarks, Showunmi-Kolapo, who was seeking support for her running mate, PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu, described Soyode as one of Egbaland's most distinguished sons.

"I've always known you, our father, to be a man of integrity. We, the younger ones, look up to you. That was why when I was told about your book launch and birthday celebration, I said I had to be part of it. Your support and prayers today mean a lot to me," she said.

Soyode, in turn, prayed for the success of the PDP governorship ticket and wished the candidates well in their campaign.
