President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that preparations for the 2027 presidential election will not interrupt governance, saying the duties of his office will continue throughout the campaign.

Tinubu gave the assurance on Wednesday while inaugurating the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the State House in Abuja.

“The responsibility of this office does not pause,” he said.

The president said he would continue speaking directly to Nigerians about his administration’s record and development agenda, while the council coordinated campaign activities across states and local government areas.

“I will still make time to speak directly with Nigerians, even as you lead the campaign in the states and local government areas,” he said.

“So you will excuse me from going everywhere with you. We have bills to pay.”

Financial Obligations and Investment

Tinubu said government needed to meet its financial commitments and attract investors to support economic growth and future development.

“The job must go on. We have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” he said.

He also called for investment that would remain in Nigeria and contribute to opportunities for future generations.

The president did not identify the creditors or specify the financial obligations referenced in his remarks.

His assurance sets an expectation that public administration and service delivery will continue as political mobilisation intensifies. The speech did not outline specific arrangements for maintaining that separation.

Council to Lead Nationwide Mobilisation

Tinubu declared the APC ready for the election and described the council’s inauguration as a renewal of the party’s commitment to Nigerians.

He urged council members to take the party’s policies, claimed achievements and development agenda to communities and wards across the country.

The president also cautioned APC governors, lawmakers and other leaders against taking previous electoral efforts for granted, calling for sustained commitment ahead of the vote.

Drawing on his tenure as Lagos governor, Tinubu cited measures his administration took against the threat of Atlantic Ocean flooding as an example of determination in public office.

“There is no limit to daring. You must dare, you must be determined,” he said.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, governors and other political leaders attended the inauguration, alongside APC youth and women’s groups.

The campaign council, led by Director-General Senator Abdulaziz Yari, is scheduled to launch the party’s presidential campaign in Kaduna on October 24.

As the council begins mobilisation, Tinubu’s pledge places continued attention to government responsibilities alongside his bid for a second term.
