Transmission Fault Cuts Power to Karu, Nyanya, Adjoining Areas

By Atlantic Reports
A fault on the Apo–Karu 132-kilovolt transmission line has disrupted electricity supply to Karu, Nyanya and several adjoining communities, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The company said the line tripped at 5:31 p.m. on Monday, cutting power supply to the Karu substation.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, TCN said engineers who physically inspected the line identified a cut jumper on the yellow phase at Tower T2. A jumper is an electrical connection between sections of a power line.
The disruption left Abuja Electricity Distribution Company unable to supply customers in Karu, Nyanya, Kugbo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Orozo, Karshi, Mararaba and surrounding areas, TCN said.
The company said its maintenance crew was scheduled to undertake urgent repairs on Tuesday to restore the transmission line to service.
However, the statement did not give an estimated restoration time or explain what caused the jumper to break. Supply restoration had not been confirmed in the update.
For affected households and businesses, the immediate concern is how long the interruption will last. The announced repair schedule indicates planned work, rather than a guarantee of when electricity will return.
TCN apologised to affected consumers for the inconvenience.
