Wike Unites FCT PDP, APC Stakeholders for Tinubu’s Re-election

By Atlantic Reports
Stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory have agreed to work together for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced the arrangement at a meeting of the Rainbow Coalition in Abuja on Monday, urging participating politicians to set aside party differences for the presidential contest.
The meeting brought together serving and former senators, party chairmen, National Assembly candidates and grassroots leaders from the FCT’s six area councils.
Participants endorsed Tinubu as their sole presidential candidate for 2027. The arrangement represents the position of the participating stakeholders, rather than an announced national agreement between the PDP and APC.
“I want to let all of you know that we are going to work together. Nobody should say, ‘I am PDP’ or ‘I am APC.’ For the purpose of this election, we are together,” Wike said.
Presidential support across party lines
Wike described himself as the coordinator and field commander of Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers State.
He said the coalition’s central objective was to secure the President’s victory, while allowing participants to pursue their respective interests in other electoral contests.
The minister cited the 2024 Edo governorship election as an example of cooperation between elements of different parties influencing an electoral outcome. That interpretation was his assessment of the contest.
The coalition’s approach allows members to retain their party identities while supporting the same presidential candidate. However, the account of the meeting did not explain how disagreements over other races would be managed.
Wike cites projects and institutional reforms
Wike said the campaign would draw on the Tinubu administration’s record, citing road construction, school rehabilitation, police station upgrades and improvements to public facilities across the six FCT area councils.
He also highlighted the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission, the appointment of an internal Head of Service and the establishment of dedicated secretariats for women’s affairs and youth development.
According to the minister, those reforms had improved career progression opportunities for FCT civil servants and expanded participation in governance.
The meeting account did not provide project costs, completion figures or outcome data against which those claims could be assessed.
Wike also pointed to the administration’s economic reforms and Tinubu’s support for the proposed establishment of state police. State police was presented as a proposal, rather than an operational security structure.
Party chairmen pledge support
FCT APC Chairman Ishaku Yamawo endorsed Wike’s leadership of the campaign and praised his efforts to bring political opponents together.
His PDP counterpart, Usman Yahaya, also pledged support for the President.
“We are in PDP but we are going to support Tinubu’s re-election 100 per cent,” Yahaya said.
The coalition gives Tinubu an organised support platform involving politicians from both parties in the FCT. Whether that cooperation translates into broader voter support will depend on its mobilisation efforts and how residents assess the administration’s record.
