The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called on Nigeria’s political leaders to set aside electoral considerations and urgently confront the country’s worsening insecurity, warning that continued killings, abductions and attacks are threatening national stability.

Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, ACF National Publicity Secretary, made the call in a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna.

The forum said armed non-state actors were increasingly attacking communities, disrupting livelihoods and spreading fear, despair and lawlessness among citizens.

Concern Over 2027 Political Focus

ACF alleged that some elected officials and politically exposed persons were becoming more focused on the 2027 elections than on delivering effective governance and addressing the country’s security challenges.

The forum described the situation as disheartening and frightening, saying the scale of violence posed a serious threat to Nigeria’s stability and development.

It said the situation was particularly concerning given the continuing attacks and insecurity reported across several states.

Concern Over Children and Other Captives

The forum also expressed concern over children reportedly still being held by terrorists in Borno, Kwara and other states.

ACF said several other citizens remained in captivity under what it described as horrendous conditions, adding to the distress of families and communities affected by abductions.

Zamfara Among States Facing Severe Attacks

ACF cited recent attacks in Zamfara, where it said five separate incidents reportedly occurred in a single day, resulting in deaths, abductions and destruction of property.

The forum said attacks occurred almost daily in different parts of the state, describing Zamfara as increasingly resembling a “killing field”.

It also raised concerns over sporadic attacks and killings in Plateau, Taraba, Benue, Niger, Katsina, Kogi and other states.

According to the forum, abductions, killings and ransom demands were also increasing in Chikun Local Government Area and communities bordering Kaduna metropolis.

‘How Much More Must Nigerians Endure?’

The forum said the incidents it highlighted represented only part of the wider security challenges confronting the country.

ACF questioned how much more violence, abductions and bloodshed citizens must endure before authorities take decisive action.

It also asked when political office holders would prioritise the security and welfare of citizens above electoral and re-election considerations.

Call for Decisive Action

ACF urged the Federal Government and political leaders to urgently address the deteriorating security situation across Arewa communities and other parts of Nigeria.

“Every new incident of insecurity should be one too many,” the forum said, urging electioneering activities to give way to decisive security action.

The forum called for an end to political distractions, stressing that “now is the time to stop the politics and end the killings.”

It urged the Federal Government and political leaders to prioritise the protection, security, wellbeing and welfare of Nigerians.
