The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Sokoto State Office, has warned the public against individuals circulating fake appointment and nomination letters falsely claimed to have been issued by the commission.

This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the commission's Public Affairs Officer, Mr Hassan Sarki-Gendane, on Tuesday in Sokoto.

According to Sarki-Gendane, some unscrupulous individuals have been going about with forged appointment and nomination letters, falsely claiming to have been appointed by the commission's National Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN. He said the fraudulent letters purport to offer positions such as State Coordinator of Local Government R-TECH, Electoral Officers (EOs), and Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs).

He stressed that the commission has no connection whatsoever with these individuals or the letters they are circulating.

"The general public is hereby advised to exercise caution and not to engage with, or make any payments to, persons presenting such documents," he said.

Sarki-Gendane reiterated that INEC does not, under any circumstances, demand money from individuals in exchange for appointments or for the conduct of elections. He urged anyone who comes across individuals distributing fake letters or soliciting money in INEC's name to report such persons immediately to the nearest security agency or INEC office for appropriate action.

The public affairs officer also reaffirmed the commitment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Sokoto State, Umar Yusuf-Garba, to conducting elections that are free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive.

He also advised the public to depend exclusively on INEC's official communication channels when seeking information related to appointments, recruitment exercises, and electoral matters.
