2027: PDP Engages INEC Over Candidates Omitted From Final List
Share:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is in talks with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resolve the omission of some of its candidates from the final list of contestants for the 2027 general elections.

The party's National Publicity Secretary, Mr Jungudo Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.

According to Mohammed, the party noted with concern that some of its candidates were missing from what he described as the "purported" final list released by INEC on Saturday.

The statement did not name the affected candidates or say how many of them were left out.

Mohammed assured all affected candidates, party members and supporters that the PDP was engaging the commission to address the issues responsible for the omissions.

He said the aim of the engagement was to reach an amicable resolution in line with the law and established electoral guidelines.

"The PDP, therefore, assures all concerned that it is treating this development with the utmost seriousness it deserves and will communicate further developments as appropriate.

"The party is committed to ensuring that all legitimate concerns are properly addressed with the commission," he said.

The spokesman urged affected candidates, members and supporters to remain calm and exercise patience.

He also asked them to refrain from actions or statements capable of undermining the ongoing engagements with INEC.

INEC's response to the party's statement was not included in the report.
