APC's Adeola Vows Legal Action Over Disputed Claims on His Origin

Sen. Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West on the platform of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), has threatened to sue Hon. Abayomi Hunye and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello over statements he described as libelous, concerning claims about his state of origin.

The threat was contained in a statement issued by Adeola's Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, on Tuesday in Abeokuta. Adeola is the APC's governorship candidate in Ogun State.

The senator accused Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube in Ipokia Local Government Area, and Marcus-Bello, a chieftain of the PDP, of making false claims about him and his family during a national television appearance.

He said the pair had asserted, in a televised interview, that he was in fact an indigene of Ekiti State rather than Ogun.

Adeola gave the two individuals a 24-hour ultimatum to produce evidence backing their claims or face legal action.

"I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know, utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof," he said.

He further alleged that one of the pair claimed on air that he hailed from Ekiti but could not name a specific town or community when pressed, while the other made unfounded claims about the location of his parents' graves in an apparent attempt to lend credibility to the allegation.

"The other one was lying about the locations of the graves of my parents as if she was part of the undertakers at the burial, all in a futile effort to justify an unsustainable falsehood," he said.
"Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits," Adeola added.

The senator noted that similar claims about his origin had previously been deployed as political propaganda to try to block his emergence as senator for Ogun West, an effort he said failed when the district's electorate voted overwhelmingly for him in the 2023 National Assembly election.

He described the renewed allegations as a fresh attempt to weaken his standing ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
