Breakthrough Football Academy has launched in Kano with a focus on identifying and developing young players for potential careers in professional football.

Speaking at the launch on Saturday, the academy’s Chief Executive Officer and coach, Hajiya Hida Gadar, said the initiative began at the Racecourse field before moving to a larger facility to accommodate more aspiring footballers.

Gadar said support from Kano residents had encouraged her to continue despite the uncertainty and challenges she initially faced.

She explained that the academy would help players improve their skills while developing discipline, commitment and confidence.

According to her, young footballers also need guidance to understand the opportunities available in the sport and the work required to pursue them.

Gadar said properly managed football careers could improve the livelihoods of players and their families. She also argued that organised sporting activities could help steer young people away from substance abuse and other harmful behaviour.

She urged aspiring players to take training seriously, remain disciplined and work consistently towards their ambitions.

The founder called on government and other stakeholders to invest in grassroots football facilities, training programmes and opportunities for young players.

She reaffirmed the academy’s commitment to providing coaching and guidance to support players’ development.

Kano State Sports Commission Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Babangida, commended Gadar for establishing the academy.

He said the initiative could strengthen grassroots sports by giving young players opportunities to improve their abilities and pursue professional careers.

The launch outlined the academy’s ambitions, although details of enrolment, fees, age categories and pathways into professional clubs were not provided.
