Court Awards N125,000 Costs Against Odumodublvck Over Delay

An Abuja High Court on Wednesday awarded N125,000 in costs against rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, after his lawyer asked for an adjournment in a civil suit filed against him.
The claimant, Ogbogiri Okey Levi, popularly known as Kraziecent, is suing the musician for assault and battery. The allegations have not been proven in court.
When the matter resumed, counsel to the claimant, Mr Uchenna Ojembe, told the court that it was slated for cross-examination and defence, and that his witness was in court and ready to proceed.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Ikenna Magnus, however asked the court for another date so he could prepare for cross-examination and defence.
Magnus told the court that he was just coming into the matter and needed a little time to put his house in order.
Ojembe opposed the request, describing it as a familiar tactic by the defence to hold up the case.
"This is the usual delay tactics to obstruct and stall proceedings. We will not be applying to keep them out, but we will be applying for N5 million cost," Ojembe said.
The defence counsel again appealed to the court for leniency.
In her ruling, Justice J.O.E. Adeyemi-Ajayi awarded costs of N125,000 against Odumodublvck for delaying proceedings, well below the N5 million the claimant's lawyer had sought.
She adjourned the matter until Oct. 27 and Oct. 29 for cross-examination and defence.
In the suit, Kraziecent alleges that Odumodublvck assaulted him at a public event in December 2024, damaged his iPhone 15 Pro Max and caused him emotional distress.
He is seeking payment of his medical expenses, a public apology on the defendant's social media platforms and in two national dailies, or N2 billion in damages.
At Wednesday's hearing, the defence addressed the court only through its counsel, and only on the request for an adjournment. It has yet to open its defence.
