Edo Deputy Governor: SHINE Agenda Is Transforming Education
The Edo State Government under Governor Monday Okpebholo has made education a priority and is taking steps to improve teaching and learning across the state, Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa has said.
Idahosa spoke in Benin at the 12th National Annual Dinner and Secondary School Auditorium Launch Appeal Fund, organised by the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA).
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Friday Aghedo, the deputy governor said the administration was using its SHINE Agenda to strengthen the education sector and create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Idahosa listed the recruitment of 5,000 teachers among the administration's early interventions in the sector, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen the education system and raise the quality of teaching in Edo.
"Education is a priority to the Edo State Government," he said.
He added that the government would continue to roll out programmes aimed at improving the sector and securing a better future for children in the state.
The deputy governor commended GCUOBA for its contributions to the development of Government College Ughelli, saying the association's work showed the role alumni groups can play in supporting educational institutions.
He noted that the school had produced notable personalities in various fields, and attributed their achievements to the values of excellence, discipline and leadership instilled in its students.
Idahosa urged other old students' associations and stakeholders to follow GCUOBA's example by investing in their alma maters and supporting the development of education, saying such partnerships would complement government's efforts to improve educational institutions.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Douglason Omotor on the theme "From Legacy to Global Relevance: Transforming Government College Ughelli through Strategic Partnerships, Alumni Engagement and Artificial Intelligence."
The event brought together old students, educationists, government officials and other stakeholders to celebrate the legacy of Government College Ughelli and raise funds for the development of its infrastructure.
