Enugu Police Probe Reported Shooting at NDC Secretariat

By Atlantic Reports
The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, has ordered an investigation into a reported shooting by unidentified armed persons at the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat in Enugu.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, leaving a man repairing a vehicle parked along the road with a suspected gunshot injury.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday. He said the windscreens of five parked vehicles were also damaged.
According to Ndukwe, police officers responded to a distress report, restored calm and took the injured man to hospital, where he was receiving treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.
Giwa directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The statement did not identify the attackers or establish a motive for the reported shooting.
Separate Disturbance at Enugu Airport
In a separate incident earlier that day, joint police and military personnel dispersed people believed to be NDC members at the entrance to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
Ndukwe said the disturbance occurred at about 11:30 a.m., when the group gathered to receive the party’s governorship candidate.
According to the police’s preliminary findings, airport authorities restricted the party members from entering the airport in large numbers.
A misunderstanding reportedly arose among members of the group and escalated into a fight, prompting intervention by security personnel.
The police statement did not establish a connection between the airport disturbance and the later reported shooting at the party secretariat.
Giwa urged political parties and their supporters to shun violence and conduct their activities in accordance with the law and existing peace accords.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing a level playing field for all political parties and urged organisers to notify the police of planned activities to enable adequate security arrangements.
Responsibility for the reported shooting remains to be established through the investigation.
