The Federal Government has filed fresh charges at the Federal Capital Territory High Court against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly operated an unauthorised body called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The development led Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja to strike out the earlier case on Monday following an application by the prosecution.

Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation and counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation, told the court that a review of the case file had identified defects in the charge originally filed by the police.

He said the alleged forgery of documents involved matters that should be prosecuted at the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

Oyedepo informed the judge that a new charge had already been filed at the appropriate court and that Adeyemi would be arraigned afresh.

Defence counsel Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application, and Justice Umar struck out the charge.

The decision ended the proceedings before the Federal High Court. It was not a determination of whether the allegations against Adeyemi were proved.

Earlier allegations

The original eight-count charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, concerned allegations including forgery and impersonation.

It named Adeyemi, 38, alongside two other defendants identified as “Femi Surname Unknown” and “Anu Surname Unknown”, whose whereabouts were reported as unknown.

Police prosecutor Wisdom Madaki filed that charge on 27 November 2025. The Attorney-General of the Federation took over the prosecution on 30 September.

Adeyemi had been arraigned and ordered remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre. The supplied account did not clarify his custody status following Monday’s ruling or give a date for the fresh arraignment.

The prosecution alleges that he operated the PFIPC from the second floor of the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase III, in Abuja before his arrest.

The allegations remain subject to proof in court.

Documents and proposed witnesses

The earlier prosecution listed the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, among its proposed witnesses, alongside civil servants, police personnel and people allegedly posted to work at the disputed agency.

Documents listed for possible use at trial included a police investigation report, Gbajabiamila’s petition dated 17 October 2025 and a purported presidential appointment letter dated 8 March 2024, which the prosecution alleges was forged.

The list also included correspondence concerning Central Bank of Nigeria accounts, self-accounting status, approval for the council’s take-off, and requests for collaboration on land and offices across the states.

Listing documents and witnesses does not establish the authenticity of the records or prove the charges. Their admissibility and evidential value would be matters for the trial court.

The account also said President Bola Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate the council’s activities on 7 July, with a 30-day deadline.

That investigation was reported as concluded, but its findings were not provided.

The next stage is Adeyemi’s arraignment before the FCT High Court, where the fresh allegations will be formally presented and his plea taken.
