Fire Outbreak Destroys N50m Worth of Property in Osogbo

A fire outbreak at Spring Valley Estate, Oranmiyan, located beside the Arts and Culture Centre in Osogbo, has destroyed property estimated at N50 million.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Osun Command, Mrs Omoyemi Ojo, on Monday in Osogbo. According to the statement, the incident occurred on Sunday evening within the residential estate.
Ojo said the command received an emergency distress call about the fire from a resident identified as Tunde Balogun at approximately 5:38 p.m. Following the alert, firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze before it could spread further within the estate.
She explained that preliminary investigations carried out by fire service officials pointed to an electrical surge as the suspected cause of the outbreak, although further assessment of the incident may still be ongoing.
Narrating how the situation unfolded, Ojo said that upon arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered that the flames were largely confined to the kitchen and basement sections of a five-bedroom duplex, which was being used as a residential property. She noted that the fire had not spread beyond these areas by the time responders intervened, a factor that helped limit the overall extent of the damage.
The Osun Command PRO further disclosed that the fire was eventually brought under control with additional support from the Osun State Fire Service, whose personnel worked alongside federal firefighters to fully extinguish the blaze. She commended the swift and coordinated response, which she said helped prevent the incident from escalating into a larger disaster.
Importantly, Ojo confirmed that no life was lost in the incident, describing the outcome as one without casualties despite the scale of the property loss.
She added that although property worth N50 million was destroyed in the fire, a significantly larger portion of the estate — valued at approximately N200 million — was successfully saved from the inferno, thanks to the timely intervention of the firefighting teams.
