HERFON to Unveil Book on Non-Communicable Diseases, Offer Free Screening

By Atlantic Reports
The Health Sector Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON) will unveil a two-volume book on non-communicable diseases in Abuja on 15 October, with free health screening available to participants.
HERFON’s Executive Secretary, Dr Celestine Okorie, announced the event in a statement on Monday, saying the publication would support evidence-based discussions on Nigeria’s health challenges.
Titled A Review of Non-Communicable Diseases in Nigeria, the book was produced under the HERFON Health Review Series with support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Okorie said more than 70 authors and contributors examined common and emerging non-communicable diseases, their burden, prevention, management and control.
Free Screening for Participants
Limi Hospital, Abuja, will provide free health screening at the unveiling, according to the statement.
Okorie said the exercise was intended to raise awareness of screening and early detection in preventing and managing non-communicable diseases.
The announcement did not specify the tests available, eligibility requirements or arrangements for follow-up care where screening identifies a health concern.
HERFON said the publication formed part of its efforts to strengthen understanding of issues requiring sustained attention from policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers and development partners.
Health Stakeholders Invited
The Emir of Shonga, Dr Haliru Yahaya, will chair the occasion, while Dr Chijioke Kaduru, Chairman of the Non-Communicable Diseases Foundation in Ngor Okpala, Imo State, is also scheduled to feature.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour.
HERFON invited health professionals, policymakers, researchers, development partners, media organisations and members of the public to participate in the unveiling and discussions on addressing non-communicable diseases in Nigeria.
The statement did not provide the event’s venue within Abuja or its starting time.
