A 45-year-old man, Benjamin Adeniyi, has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy, impersonation and negligence following allegations that he posed as a medical doctor and endangered a woman’s life in Ibadan.

Adeniyi was arraigned on Monday before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in the Oyo State capital.

The prosecution counsel, Sgt Oluwafemi Ajayi, alleged that the offences occurred between 2022 and 2 October in the Olodo area of Ibadan.

Ajayi told the court that Adeniyi falsely presented himself as a medical doctor while operating a hospital. He further alleged that the defendant administered fertility injections to a woman despite knowing that he lacked the qualifications to do so.

The prosecutor also alleged that Adeniyi fraudulently obtained ₦4 million from Shittu Olanrewaju and ₦6 million from Bayo Ogedemgbe for surgeries the prosecution described as unjustified and performed without the required qualifications.

The allegations have not been established in court. Adeniyi denied the charges.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offences contravene Sections 516, 484 and 343(f) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The court report did not specify the injections administered, the nature of the surgeries or any medical findings establishing harm to the patients.

Magistrate A. T. Oyediji granted Adeniyi bail of ₦2 million with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until 21 December for hearing.
