Kaduna NDLEA Arrests 108, Seizes Nearly 1.9 Tonnes of Drugs

By Atlantic Reports
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says its Kaduna State Command arrested 108 suspects and seized nearly 1.9 tonnes of illicit drugs during operations in September.
The command also reported securing 12 convictions and dismantling 40 locations it described as drug joints across the state.
Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sani Garba, the command’s press officer, disclosed the figures in a statement issued on Monday in Kaduna.
According to Garba, officers recovered 1,897.907 kilogrammes of substances, with cannabis accounting for the largest share at 1,874.843 kilogrammes.
Other seizures comprised 20.749 kilogrammes of tramadol, seven grammes of cocaine, 39 grammes of crystal methamphetamine and 2.269 kilogrammes of other psychotropic substances.
He said the operations took place at various locations as part of efforts to curb illicit drug dealing and trafficking.
Garba said 12 defendants were convicted and sentenced to various prison terms, while 10 other suspects had been charged in court. Investigations into other cases were continuing.
The statement did not specify the offences, sentences or courts involved, or clarify whether all the convictions arose from arrests made during September. Those arrested remain suspects unless convicted.
Beyond enforcement, Garba said the command was conducting public sensitisation campaigns and providing counselling and rehabilitation services for people affected by substance use.
He said these activities were intended to reduce demand for illicit drugs, improve awareness and support people experiencing dependence. The statement did not provide the number of people reached or receiving care.
The State Commander, Maijama’a Muhammad, commended officers for their work and thanked residents and stakeholders for information and cooperation.
He appealed for continued public support to strengthen efforts against illicit drug distribution in Kaduna.
