Kaduna PDP Candidate Bawa Condemns Millennium City Kidnapping
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Usman Bawa, has condemned the latest kidnapping in Millennium City, Kaduna, describing it as "one attack too many".
Bawa expressed sadness over the reported abduction of four people by suspected kidnappers at Rahusa Estate, Millennium City, on Monday.
His spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, said in a statement on Wednesday that the incident came barely one week after an attack on the Babban Saura PW community, in which one person was killed.
According to the statement, other residents were also abducted in that attack and remain in the custody of their captors.
Bawa said residents of Millennium City and other parts of Kaduna continued to live in fear because of persistent insecurity.
According to him, residents can no longer freely access their farms, travel safely or sleep peacefully in their homes.
The candidate commended security personnel for risking their lives to confront kidnappers and other criminal elements across the state.
Bawa urged the state government to show stronger leadership and take decisive action against insecurity.
He called for the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Millennium City and other vulnerable communities in the affected areas.
He also urged the government to work with estate associations to provide streetlights, patrol vehicles and emergency communication lines.
Bawa called for the swift and safe rescue of the victims abducted from Rahusa Estate and of others still held by their captors.
He further advocated the establishment or deployment of security outfits in soft-target communities, and adequate equipment for vigilante groups, including the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVIS).
Bawa said Kaduna could not achieve security through press statements, but through deliberate, inclusive and sustained action.
He pledged that a PDP administration under his proposed "People Agenda" would make community security a foundation of governance, an approach he said would make every citizen part of the state's security architecture.
"This is one attack too many. Our people deserve better," Bawa said.
In a separate development, Bawa mourned the death of Malam Nafi'u Baba Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria.
He described Baba Ahmed's death as a great loss to Nigeria, Islam and humanity, saying the deceased's life was marked by dedicated service to Islam and humanity.
Bawa said Baba Ahmed would be remembered for his uprightness, wisdom and commitment to the cause of Islam and service to humanity, adding that Nigeria had lost one of its great minds and patriots whose contributions would remain significant.
He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.
