The Katsina State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving healthcare for women and children, tackling malnutrition and expanding immunisation coverage through development partnerships.

The governor gave the assurance during a meeting that followed a visiting SCI-US representative’s assessment of project sites and community interventions in the state.

He said the administration would support access to quality healthcare and address both the direct and underlying causes of malnutrition. He also pledged support for immunisation programmes aimed at protecting vulnerable children from preventable diseases.

Community services and future funding

Sandra Youssef, Senior Project Manager for Africa at SCI-US, commended the government’s support for the CORE Group Partners Project (CGPP) and its immunisation partnership.

Youssef, who supports the organisation’s Nigeria country office and Katsina operations, said the visit allowed her to assess activities in communities and interact with beneficiaries.

“Seeing community health services, immunisation for children and pregnant women receiving care is great work,” she said.

Her remarks described services observed during the visit. The supplied account did not include figures showing how many people had been reached or measured changes in immunisation coverage, maternal healthcare access or nutrition outcomes.

Youssef said the organisation hoped to sustain the partnership in 2027, subject to future plans and funding.

She added that continued collaboration could help attract additional resources and extend healthcare interventions to more communities. That prospect remains conditional, rather than a confirmed funding commitment.

Longstanding development cooperation

Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Development Management Board, Mustapha Shehu, said SCI had implemented development interventions in the state for more than two decades.

He identified immunisation, basic education, nutrition and school safety among its areas of work, adding that the organisation had collaborated with other partners to strengthen healthcare delivery.

Shehu said the programmes aligned with the state government’s Building Your Future agenda.

For women, children and their families, continuity will depend on sustained funding and reliable access to services. The meeting reaffirmed support for the partnership, but the account did not set out new funding amounts, expansion targets or an implementation timetable for 2027.
