At least 16 boxers are expected to compete at “Fists and Flex”, a professional boxing event scheduled for December 5 in Lagos, according to UnBoxx Boxing Promotions Chief Executive Officer Bernard Otunola.

Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday, Otunola said preparations were underway to provide a platform for local fighters and attract a wider audience to the sport.

He said the event would replace the “Chaos in Lagos” identity, with the new name intended to avoid conflicts and accommodate boxing, culture, entertainment, fitness, fashion and lifestyle.

Keeping Local Fighters Active

Otunola said his ambition was to give homegrown boxers more opportunities to compete and develop before pursuing international careers.

“I want to use my platform to keep homegrown talents active and bring out the best in them, before they venture into the international circuit,” he said.

He described UnBoxx Sports and Entertainment Ltd. as an organisation investing in boxing to create opportunities for young people.

Otunola expressed confidence in Nigerian fighters and said the initiative aimed to improve their career prospects. His broader ambitions to strengthen the industry and restore Nigeria’s standing in the sport remain goals rather than demonstrated outcomes.

Boxing Meets Entertainment

Explaining the new identity, Otunola said “Fists” represented competition and discipline, while “Flex” reflected fashion, fitness, lifestyle and entertainment.

He said the combination was intended to make boxing more attractive to fans while maintaining opportunities for professional fighters.

The announcement did not identify the venue, participating boxers, weight divisions, bout pairings or ticket arrangements. It also did not disclose fighters’ purses or the event’s sanctioning arrangements.

Those details will establish the shape of the December programme and the opportunities available to its competitors. For local boxers, the event’s value will depend on the quality of matchmaking, competition and continued access to bouts.
