Lagos Pastor Urges Christians to Reject Political Bitterness, Ethnic Divisions

By Atlantic Reports
The Lead Pastor of The Conquerors’ Assembly in Egbeda, Lagos, Rev. Hezekiah Duro-Aina, has urged Christians to resist ethnic prejudice and avoid allowing political disagreements to damage their relationships.
Preaching during a church service on Sunday, Duro-Aina said citizens could seek a change of government without harbouring hatred or allowing political developments to overwhelm their peace of mind.
“I want to change the government, but I am saying to you, don’t kill yourself,” he said.
He cautioned worshippers against blaming entire ethnic groups for political grievances, encouraging them to promote love and unity.
Political Differences Without Hostility
Duro-Aina observed that political opponents often reconciled after elections while some supporters continued to resent one another.
He urged Christians to reflect on that contrast and avoid prolonged arguments that fuelled hostility.
The pastor said his central commitment was to his Christian mission.
“My campaign is for Jesus. I campaign for Jesus,” he said.
His message encouraged worshippers to maintain their convictions while preserving respectful relationships with people who held different political views.
Perseverance in Faith
Turning to the sermon’s theme of faith and steadfastness, Duro-Aina cited Mark 11:23 and encouraged believers to remain confident in God’s promises when facing difficulties.
He described the biblical image of mountains as representing obstacles that could appear deeply rooted and difficult to overcome.
“Doubt may come to your heart, but don’t stop speaking what God has said. Believe God in your heart and speak with your mouth,” he said.
He urged the congregation to remain consistent in prayer and declarations of faith, even when circumstances appeared unchanged.
Duro-Aina also encouraged women hoping to conceive, citing the biblical account of Abraham as an example of perseverance. His remarks were religious encouragement rather than medical guidance or a guarantee of pregnancy.
The service concluded with prayers and an invitation for worshippers wishing to begin their Christian journey to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
