The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has begun implementing newly approved pension rates and paying arrears owed to military pensioners.

The MPB disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Sqn.-Ldr. Aliyu Mohammed, on Friday in Abuja.

Mohammed said the adjustment followed the implementation of the new minimum wage, and that applicable arrears would be paid into pensioners' accounts starting Oct. 2. He said the implementation of the new pension rates and the payment of arrears had already been processed by the board.

"The board appreciates the patience, understanding and cooperation demonstrated by military pensioners throughout the implementation process," he said.

Mohammed reaffirmed the board's commitment to timely pension payments and continuous improvement of pension administration, and acknowledged the invaluable service and sacrifices of Nigeria's military veterans.

He urged pensioners to continue cooperating with the board as it works to improve pension administration and service delivery.
