The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported drug seizures and arrests across eight states, including two cargo interceptions at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi, detailed the operations in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.

Although the statement initially named seven states, its breakdown also included a raid in Plateau State, where officers reportedly recovered drugs, firearms and ammunition.

The seizures and allegations remain the agency’s account. The statement did not announce convictions arising from the operations.

Two Cargo Interceptions at Lagos Airport

Babafemi said officers intercepted nine cartons shipped from Pakistan aboard a Royal Air Maroc flight.

The cargo was placed under surveillance after arriving on September 29. A joint examination on October 6 reportedly uncovered 354,000 tablets of tapentadol, labelled 250mg, weighing 307.2kg.

In a separate operation, officers monitored consolidated cargo arriving from the United Kingdom on September 29.

According to the agency, six large woven bags contained 70 parcels of a substance it described as “Colorado”, a synthetic cannabinoid, weighing 75.9kg.

Babafemi said a clearing agent was arrested on September 30. A ride-hailing driver was subsequently arrested while collecting one bag from a logistics company in Mafoluku, Oshodi, while a clothing trader was arrested after arriving for the remaining five.

The agency attributed the consignments to UK-based associates, citing statements allegedly made by suspects. Those accounts have not been tested in court.

Cannabis Seizures in Cross River, Edo and Ondo

In Cross River, NDLEA said a raid on Iyala Nkun village in Ikom Local Government Area on October 4 led to one arrest and the recovery of 181 bags of cannabis weighing 1,100kg, alongside 17.15kg of cannabis seeds.

In Edo, officers reportedly intercepted a Toyota Camry at Otuo in Owan East Local Government Area on October 5, recovering 1,049 blocks of compressed cannabis weighing 702.83kg. Three suspects were arrested.

A separate raid in Benin City reportedly yielded 989 grams of a substance described as “Loud”, 13 grams of “Colorado” and 83 grams of methamphetamine.

In Ondo, the agency said officers recovered 290kg of cannabis from a location in Shasha, Akure, and arrested a 21-year-old suspect on October 5.

Another raid that day in Oba-Ile, Akure, reportedly resulted in the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect and the recovery of 351kg of cannabis.

Tablets Recovered in Taraba and Kano

Babafemi said NDLEA officers, supported by soldiers, arrested two suspects at Chanchanji village in Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba, on October 9.

The agency reported recovering 166,200 tablets of tramadol, labelled 225mg, weighing 107kg.

In Kano, a stop-and-search operation along the Kano–Maiduguri road on October 9 reportedly led to one arrest and the seizure of 24,990 tramadol capsules, 50,000 diazepam tablets and 22,000 tablets identified as Exol-5.

In Kaduna, officers patrolling the Zaria–Kaduna expressway reportedly recovered 31 large bags and 775 blocks of cannabis described as “skunk”, with a combined weight of 1,027kg.

A further operation in Orile, Lagos, on October 6 reportedly yielded 32.51kg of skunk and 52.65kg of cannabis seeds.

Firearms and Ammunition in Plateau Raid

The agency said a raid on a residence on Rukuba Road in Jos on October 8 led to the arrest of a 45-year-old man.

Officers reportedly recovered 47 grams of methamphetamine, two pump-action firearms, one locally made gun, 199 live cartridges, five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and one round of 9mm ammunition.

The statement did not specify court dates or provide further details on the handling of the firearms investigation.
