NEMA Holds Emergency Response Training for Corps Members, Students

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Kaduna has trained a group of NYSC corps members and industrial trainees on the operation of search and rescue equipment used in emergency situations.
The training, organised by the agency's Kaduna Operations Office on Tuesday, centred on the practical handling of rescue equipment, medical consumables and basic safety procedures.
Mr Shafiu Garba, NEMA's Chief Rescue Officer and lead facilitator, said the hands-on session was designed to give participants the skills needed to safely operate emergency equipment and assist responders during rescue operations.
He walked participants through the functions and application of various pieces of emergency equipment, including the Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU), used in rescue operations.
Participants also received practical instruction on equipment housed in the rescue van and on the proper use of medical consumables during emergencies.
Garba emphasised the importance of observing basic safety precautions when handling rescue equipment and medical supplies.
"The exercise provided the participants with first-hand exposure to emergency response procedures, equipment handling and basic operational safety. The training formed part of our continuous capacity-building efforts to improve preparedness and strengthen emergency response," he said.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Nuriyah Isah, an NYSC corps member posted to the Information Unit, described the training as "highly educative and insightful."
She thanked NEMA for the opportunity to gain practical knowledge on rescue equipment and medical consumables, and affirmed that participants were ready to support emergency response operations whenever the need arises.
