New Kadung Traditional Ruler Pledges Peace and Unity in Plateau

By Atlantic Reports
Chief Amos Mbah, the newly installed Adiye-Ruma Kadung, has pledged to promote peaceful coexistence, preserve cultural values and support development among the Kadung people in Plateau State’s Pankshin and Kanke local government areas.
Mbah made the commitment during his coronation on Saturday in Pankshin, describing his installation as a responsibility to serve the community and protect its interests and aspirations.
“My coronation serves as a covenant of peace, unity and prosperity for the Kadung community,” he said.
The traditional ruler said his vision rested on unity, resilience and progress, emphasising that development would require the participation of community members rather than reliance on traditional authority alone.
“As true power lies not in the title I bear, but in the collective strength of our hard work,” he said.
He urged the people to become active partners in building a community whose achievements would benefit both present and future generations.
Mbah also promised to complement government efforts to promote peaceful relations among the different ethnic groups within his domain.
Cultural Custodianship and Community Support
The Chairman of the Kadung Development Association’s Pankshin/Kanke branch, Mr Emmanuel Yizo, said the installation was the first of its kind for the Kadung community across the two local government areas.
“This association has been in existence for a very long time, but it is the first time we are installing the Adiye-Ruma Kadung for the Pankshin and Kanke LGAs,” he said.
Yizo explained that Mbah would serve as custodian of the community’s culture, customs, traditions, norms and values.
Pankshin Local Government Chairman, Mr Felix Gonung, represented by his deputy, Mr John Dasar, commended the community for coming together to install a leader.
He urged Kadung sons and daughters to support Mbah through cooperation and constructive engagement, stressing that leadership could not succeed in isolation.
Gonung also encouraged residents to remain peaceful, hardworking and law-abiding. He charged the new ruler to uphold the confidence placed in him by leading with wisdom, humility and fairness.
The coronation established a shared traditional leadership role for the Kadung community across Pankshin and Kanke, with speakers placing cultural preservation, peaceful coexistence and collective responsibility at the centre of its mandate.
