The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kano says it received 120 complaints in August.
The NHRC State Coordinator, Shehu Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview in Kano on Monday, noting that 75 cases had been resolved while 45 remained pending.

According to Abdullahi, 80 of the cases received during the period bordered on child abandonment and child rights violations, while 29 cases concerned domestic violence and the right to life. "The remaining 11 cases were on economic and cultural rights, law enforcement abuses and neglect of parental responsibilities," he said.

Abdullahi added that the commission also mediated several marital disputes during the period, urging couples to exercise greater tolerance toward one another in order to better handle their responsibilities.

The coordinator said the commission will continue strengthening collaboration with security operatives and other relevant agencies to promote and protect human rights across the state.
