NYSC Pays Tribute to Late Former D-G, Col. Peter Obasa

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is mourning its former Director-General, retired Col. Peter Obasa, who died on Monday.
This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Mrs Caroline Embu, the scheme's Director of Information and Public Relations.
According to Embu, the current Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, paid a condolence visit to the deceased's residence in Ilorin, Kwara State, where he commiserated with the family.
Nafiu described Obasa as a pioneer manager and one of the founding fathers of the scheme, saying he laid the foundation for a strong administrative structure that has sustained the NYSC over the years. He noted that Obasa's tenure as the scheme's third Chief Executive, from 1979 to 1984, recorded significant achievements.
He commended the late Obasa's contributions to the development of the NYSC and prayed for the repose of his soul, describing his death as a loss not only to his immediate family but to the scheme as a whole. He added that the NYSC would continue to cherish his enduring contributions and memory.
Nafiu particularly acknowledged the encouragement and support Obasa had given him while alive, and assured the family that the NYSC would continue to build on the solid foundation laid by its founding fathers while striving to grow stronger. "I convey the condolences of the entire NYSC family to the Obasa family," he said.
Responding on behalf of the family, Mr Victor Obasa thanked Nafiu for the visit, describing his father's death as shocking but expressing the family's gratitude to God for his life and legacy.
"We are overwhelmed, and our family says thank you for the honour you gave our dad. We are very grateful to you for not forgetting him," he said.
