PCRC Donates Security Cameras to Five FCT Schools

By Atlantic Reports
The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), FCT Command, has donated closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to five schools in the Federal Capital Territory as part of efforts to strengthen security for students and teachers.
The committee’s chairman, Chief Rufus Ebegba, disclosed the donation on Tuesday in Abuja.
The beneficiary institutions are Government Science and Technical College, Kwali; Government Secondary School, Karshi; and Junior Secondary Schools in Abaji, Kuje and Kubwa.
Programme coordinator, Mr Ndagi Mohammed, said the initiative aimed to create safer learning environments through improved surveillance and security awareness.
He urged principals to establish functional Safe Schools Clubs to encourage discipline, vigilance and students’ participation in keeping their schools safe.
Ebegba said a monitoring team would periodically visit the schools to assess the clubs’ activities and effectiveness. He called on principals to provide the support needed to sustain the initiative.
Mohammed also stressed the importance of maintaining the donated cameras and ensuring that the clubs remained active.
The donation provides equipment intended to support school security, but its effectiveness will depend on installation, maintenance, monitoring and a clear response to identified threats.
The announcement did not specify the number of cameras donated, whether installation had been completed or who would be responsible for monitoring footage. It also did not outline arrangements for protecting students’ privacy or restricting access to recordings.
For the beneficiary schools, the next steps are to put the equipment into effective use and establish the clubs, with the planned monitoring visits providing an opportunity to assess progress.
