Ribadu urges tighter security coordination ahead of 2027 polls

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has called on security administrators across the country to make coordination, prompt intelligence sharing and vigilance against misinformation their priorities as Nigeria heads towards the 2027 general elections.
Ribadu gave the charge on Thursday in Yola at the 2026 Federal and State Security Administrators Meeting (FSSAM).
Represented by his Special Adviser on Governance and Sub-National Liaison, Mr Asishana Okauru, the NSA said these measures would help to guarantee peace and credible elections.
"The officials represented in this hall are central to ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral environment.
"As you commence your deliberations today, I encourage every participant to freely share information, insights, and best practices. The value of this meeting lies in the practical exchange of ideas and coordinated implementation.
"The Office of the National Security Advisor assures you of continued support. We will remain committed to strengthening platforms and deepening federal-state collaboration," he said.
Ribadu described the security of the nation as a shared responsibility and said progress would continue to be achieved through collective effort.
He also commended Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa for his efforts to keep the state secure.
In his remarks, Fintiri urged the Federal Government to modernise operations at the country's international borders in the interest of national security and development.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, said the deployment of advanced surveillance technology, drone coverage and joint border patrols would make a positive difference.
He called for the speedy establishment of one-stop border posts to curb illegal cross-border migration, the proliferation of arms and smuggling, and for adequate federal funding of security agencies.
Fintiri said his administration remained firmly committed to keeping Adamawa safe for everyone, including investors and visitors.
"Our administration has tied no expense in equipping our security agencies from procuring operational vehicles and state-of-the-art communication gear to funding joint operations like Operation Farauta.
"We have demonstrated that when political will meets logistics, peace becomes achievable," he added.
FSSAM Chairman, Sani Aminu, commended the Adamawa government for making the state one of the most peaceful in the country.
He also acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers to peaceful coexistence in the state.
"We therefore employ other people from all other parts of Nigeria to learn from the experience of Adamawa State," he said.
Highlights of the event included the distribution of patrol vehicles and motorcycles by the Adamawa Government to local security operators in the state.
