UniCal Inaugurates New Disciplinary Committee, Urges Fairness

The University of Calabar (UniCal) has reconstituted its Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, charging members to uphold integrity in the discharge of their duties.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Offiong, gave the charge at the committee's inauguration on Wednesday in Calabar, stressing that the university operates a zero-tolerance policy toward indiscipline.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Ekaete Enang, Offiong said the reconstitution of the committee reflects balanced representation and renewed vigour, with both university management and staff unions adequately represented to promote fairness and confidence in the process.
"The reconstitution is intended to curb indiscipline and any act capable of undermining standards in teaching, learning and administration. I urge you to appreciate the sensitive nature of your assignment, and discharge this responsibility with courage, fairness and a clear conscience," he said.
Offiong reaffirmed the university management's commitment to providing an enabling environment for the committee to fulfil its mandate, and commended members of the outgoing committee for their meritorious service to the institution.
Responding on behalf of the new committee, the Chairman, Prof. Anthony Okiwelu, thanked the vice-chancellor for entrusting them with the responsibility. Okiwelu, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), urged committee members to bear in mind that their conduct should reflect the values and reputation of the university.
Other members of the reconstituted committee include Prof. Abo Nta, Prof. Daniel Ama-Abasi, Dr Stephen Demort, Dr Alex Oko, Dr John Inaku, Mr Jonas Abuo and Fidelis Akpan.
