Military Pensions Board, Wages Commission Discuss Pension Adjustments

By Atlantic Reports
The Military Pensions Board (MPB) and the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission have held discussions on implementing the new national minimum wage and its implications for retired military personnel.
MPB Chairman, Air Vice-Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem, received a delegation from the commission at the board’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
According to a statement by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, the visit focused on how the wage changes would affect the pension structure of retired servicemen and women.
Abdulraheem said ensuring that pensioners benefited from approved wage and pension adjustments remained a priority because of the direct implications for their welfare.
He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to prompt, transparent and dignified pension payments, saying it would continue to prioritise retired members of the Armed Forces.
During the visit, the delegation received briefings on procedures for reviewing pension entitlements, validating pensioners’ records and incorporating approved adjustments into payments.
The delegation also interacted with management staff and observed systems the board said were designed to support accuracy and timely payment.
However, the statement did not specify the value of the adjustments, their effective date, whether arrears would be payable or when pensioners should expect changes in their accounts. It also did not confirm that revised payments had begun.
For retired military personnel, those details will determine how the discussions translate into income. The board’s commitment will therefore be measured by the accurate calculation, clear communication and timely payment of approved entitlements.
