The Oyo State Police Command says it has arrested three men suspected of robbing members of the public around Sumal roundabout in Ibadan.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Sunday.

He said the Oluyole Divisional Headquarters received a distress call at about 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, reporting that armed men were attacking people and taking their belongings near the roundabout.

A patrol team was deployed to the location, where officers confronted the suspects and arrested three individuals aged between 23 and 29, according to the statement.

Pistol and Motorcycle Recovered

Ayanlade listed the recovered items as a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge.

Police suspect the items were used in connection with the alleged robbery.

The spokesman said the suspects confessed to robbing a tricycle driver and two passengers, as well as injuring other people during their alleged operations. These claims remain part of the police account and have not been tested in court.

The statement did not specify the number of people reportedly injured, the severity of their injuries or whether the stolen belongings were recovered.

The suspects remain in police custody, and the case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit at Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation.

No charges or court appearance were announced in the statement.
