The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Niger State Sector Command, has commenced enforcement of Operation Gunduma Phase 2 to curb the use of fake, defaced, covered and obsolete vehicle registration number plates.

The Sector Commander, Aishat Saadu, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Minna on Monday.

She said the exercise would run from Monday to Friday as part of a nationwide operation approved by the Corps Marshal to address security concerns associated with the misuse of vehicle registration plates.

According to Saadu, the operation is intended to ensure that vehicles using Nigerian roads carry genuine, valid and properly displayed registration numbers.

FRSC Links Number Plate Compliance to National Security

Saadu described the exercise as more than routine traffic enforcement, saying it was designed to strengthen vehicle identification, improve accountability and support national security.

“The primary objective of Operation Gunduma Phase 2 is to ensure that all vehicles operating on Nigerian roads have genuine, valid and properly displayed registration number plates,” she said.

She urged motorists, transport unions, vehicle dealers and other stakeholders to verify the authenticity and validity of registration plates on vehicles under their control.

The sector commander also advised motorists to ensure that their number plates were clearly displayed without obstruction, alteration or concealment.

Motorists Urged to Cooperate

Saadu appealed to the media to support the exercise through public education on vehicle registration requirements and the security implications of number plate violations.

She assured residents that FRSC personnel involved in the enforcement had been instructed to maintain professionalism, discipline and fairness.

She also urged motorists to remain calm, cooperate with officers and comply with lawful instructions during the operation.

Saadu stressed that the exercise was intended to promote compliance, protect lives and support national security rather than impose unnecessary hardship on road users.

Vehicles Impounded in Minna

Following her briefing, the sector commander led FRSC personnel to major roads in Minna to commence enforcement.

During the exercise, some vehicles were impounded over the use of defaced and obsolete registration number plates.

The five-day operation will test compliance among motorists and the effectiveness of enforcement measures in addressing the use of invalid or concealed vehicle registration plates.
